Agreement to these terms
These Terms of Service are an agreement between you and Birdbrainz. By creating an account or using Birdbrainz you accept them. If we change these terms in a way that matters, we will ask you to review and accept the new version before you continue using the service.
Who may use Birdbrainz
You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age of digital consent in your region, if higher) to use Birdbrainz. You are responsible for your account and for keeping access to your sign-in provider secure.
Your content
You keep ownership of the photos, captions, and comments you post. You grant Birdbrainz a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, process, reproduce, and display that content as needed to operate and improve the service — including creating resized copies of your photos and sending a reduced, metadata-free copy to our species-identification provider. This license ends when your content is deleted, except where copies exist in routine backups or logs for a limited time. Post only content you created or have the right to share, and don’t post other people’s private information.
Zero tolerance for objectionable content
Birdbrainz has zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users. Content that is unlawful, hateful, harassing, threatening, sexually explicit, violent, deceptive, or otherwise objectionable may be removed without notice, and accounts that post it may be suspended or permanently terminated. You can report any post, photo, or comment and block any user from within the app; we review reports and act on them promptly.
Content moderation
To keep Birdbrainz on-topic and safe, new content may be screened automatically and reviewed by humans before or after it becomes publicly visible. While content is pending review it may be visible only to you. We may remove content, restrict features, or suspend accounts that violate these terms. If you believe we got a moderation decision wrong, contact us at support@birdbrainz.co.
Acceptable use
Don’t use Birdbrainz to break the law, infringe others’ rights, harass or impersonate anyone, spam, scrape or bulk-collect data, probe or disrupt the service, or attempt to access accounts or data that aren’t yours. Don’t use location details shared on Birdbrainz to harm wildlife — for example, don’t use sighting locations to disturb, capture, or harass birds or their nests.
Location sharing
Adding a location to a post is optional — skip it and no location is shown. When you do add one, you choose a named place with the location picker; the post publicly displays that place or a broader area label, and the coordinates you picked may also appear publicly, for example on maps. Location data embedded in your photo files is never made public. Think before pinpointing sensitive spots such as active nesting sites.
Species identification
Birdbrainz can suggest species identifications using an AI model. Suggestions are automated guesses and may be wrong. They are provided for interest and convenience, not as authoritative or scientific advice.
Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time from Profile → Settings → Delete account; this permanently deletes your profile, posts, photos, and comments as described in our Privacy Policy. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms. When an account is banned for abuse, we keep a minimal, non-identifying record of the banned sign-in identity so the ban stays effective.
Disclaimers and limitation of liability
Birdbrainz is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Birdbrainz and its operators will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, arising from your use of the service. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as Birdbrainz evolves. Each version is identified by its date. For material changes we will ask you to accept the updated terms in the app before continuing.
